Responsibilities

Student behaviour and conduct are the responsibility of school staff. We ask that all teachers bringing school groups to the Museum, whether for a workshop or a self-guided visit, ensure that their students always behave appropriately. The museum is a public place, and all groups are asked to show consideration towards our other visitors and treat our displays with care.

Whether you’re coming for a facilitated workshop or a self-guided visit to the museum, all visits must be booked in advance. Please email us at bookings@guardsmuseum.org.uk to book your visit.

Workshops are designed for up to 20 students and last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. They can be booked during term time (Monday – Friday), subject to availability.

We also welcome schools that would prefer a self-guided visit or wish to combine a workshop with self-guided time. We offer gallery trails designed to support your visit, which can be downloaded from our website.

Self-led School Visits

You are welcome to carry out a self-guided preliminary visit to the Museum to familiarise yourself with the displays and layout, as well as to help inform your planning and risk assessment.

Once your booking has been made, the museum will be in touch regarding the potential planning of the preliminary visit.

We do not offer coach parking. Coaches may drop off and pick up school groups from Petty France and walk around to the museum, which is a 5-minute walk, but schools will need to make their own parking arrangements.

Alternatively, the museum is located near a number of tube stations if you choose to use public transport.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the museum does not have a dedicated inside lunchroom space; however, with our location directly opposite St James Park, you may wish to plan a stop into your journey.

We are located just next door to this world-famous ceremony. You may wish to time your visit to allow students to watch the Changing of the Guard, before heading down to the museum to explore 380-years of history behind these soldiers.
