Welcome Volunteer Role

This role suits people who enjoy creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, understand what good customer service and visitor experience looks like, enjoy helping others, and have good communication skills.

The role involves:

  • Providing a friendly greeting to all visitors on arrival
  • Listening to visitors needs and helping them enjoy their visit
  • Assisting visitors with any accessibility requirements, such as operating the lift
  • Informing visitors about the museum and what there is to see and do
  • Assisting with admissions, uniform try-on, the shop, handing out and collecting audio guides, and playing the welcome video
  • Keeping public areas well-presented, clean and tidy, including the external visitor approach, the visitor welcome space, the galleries and the children's activity space
  • Directing visitors to external facilities including toilets and food and drink
  • Answering questions about the Guards ceremonial duties schedule
  • Saying farewell to visitors, listening to feedback

Volunteers should ideally be available for a full day from 9:45am until 4:00pm, and must be able to commit to a regular volunteer shift weekly or fortnightly.  We may be able to facilitate a morning or afternoon half day (9:45am to 1:00pm, or 12:30pm to 4:00pm) instead of a full day, depending on our current requirements.

No prior experience necessary: full training is provided in all aspects of the role.  Volunteers should be confident to interact with our diverse audience, and provide a warm welcome to all.
