2000s

The end of the Cold War led to hopes the new Millenium would be an era of peace. But old ethnic and religious disputes returned, and new international rivalries soon emerged. Following terrorist attacks on America on 11 September 2001, America launched a War on Terror against both the terrorists and those supporting them. This led to the invasion and regime change in Afghanistan 2001 and Iraq 2003. Both were quick victories but then settled into long and violent insurgencies. In 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine and Britain has been the forefront of providing equipment and training support to Ukraine.
