Ceremonial Experience: Available to book now

Visit The Guards Museum for a special tour experience: immerse yourself in the story of the Foot Guards who guard Buckingham Palace and the other royal palaces. This tour focuses on all things ceremonial: uniforms, duties, equipment and music, and can be enjoyed by all the family.

Delve into the role of a Guardsman, a life of combat, peacekeeping and ceremonial duty, as your knowledgeable museum guide shares the absorbing history of the Guards through stories, anecdotes and objects. Explore what they wear and what they do: handle real Guards kit and try on genuine Guards uniforms, the iconic scarlet tunic and bearskin cap, for a photo opportunity.

Includes a guided tour of the museum, object handling and trying on a Guards uniform. After your visit, why not head off to Buckingham Palace (self-guided) to watch the Captain’s Inspection at 3:00pm – with your new insights bringing the ceremony to life!

Your guide will meet you at The Guards Museum and escort you to watch the Captain's Inspection from outside the gates of Buckingham Palace, giving you an overview of the Guards' public duties while the regimental band play.

You will then return to the museum for refreshments, a guided, out of hours tour, object handling, and trying on a Guards uniform.

Exclusive Guards Officer Experience: Available to book now

Join us at The Guards Museum for a unique opportunity to hear from a retired Guards officer. You’ll tour the museum out of hours, delving into the history of the Guards and hearing personal anecdotes of service and ceremony.

Handle items from the collection, try on a genuine Guards uniform, and ask all the questions only a Guardsman can answer. How long did it take to rehearse for Trooping the Colour? How heavy was their kit? What was life like in the army, and where were they posted? How do Guards shine their boots?!

You will have their full attention for your private tour during this special experience, and you’ll leave with a wealth of facts, stories and insights.

Military History Experience: Coming Soon

Join one of our expert Curators for your out of hours tour of the Guards Museum, focussing on the twentieth century and covering WW1, WW2 and post-1945 conflict. You’ll hear about the Guards in combat, their campaigns, and their weapons and equipment. Personal stories will be brought to life, illustrated with letters, photos and everyday belongings.

You’ll finish up your tour with the opportunity to examine items from the collection, including decommissioned weapons, to really gain an insight into what the life of a soldier in combat was like during this time.

Upgrade to a private VIP tour, and you can choose your period of interest in the twentieth century (either WW1, WW2, or post-1945), and also have an exclusive opportunity to visit the collections store.

Group Military History Experience

Includes a curator-led out of hours tour (focussing on the twentieth century, covering WW1, WW2, and post-1945 conflict), object handling in the gallery space, and tea and coffee on arrival. There will be time for a short Q & A at the end of the tour.

Upgrade to a full behind the scenes experience. Includes a private, after-hours tour with champagne on arrival, a visit to the collections store (with the opportunity to examine items from the collection), and a Q & A with the Curator. You can choose a focus on WW1, WW2, or post-1945.
