On 2nd April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands and South George. A task force was quickly gathered together and sent to relieve the Islands. The Scots and Welsh Guards were part of this force. The Welsh Guards suffered many casualties when the ship they were on, the Sir Galahad, was hit by Argentinian war planes. Both Regiments took part in the capture of Mount Tumbledown, the last major battle of the war.

The British won the conflict after 74 days with the surrender of the Argentinian forces on 14th June.
